About Us

Judo, meaning the gentle way, is a form of Japanese martial arts that utilizes throws and pinning techniques to take your opponent down. It is an adaptation of Japanese juijitsu which was originally taught to the samurai. Here, in our modern time, its mainly used for self defense and a great way to exercise. At Yama’s Dojo, we try to follow the original teachings of Kano Jigoro to teach an authentic version of Judo to our students. We offer classes at every level so you can take the right one that fits your needs. We also offer a children’s class that will teach them discipline and respect. They may also pick up on a few Japaense words we use during our instruction. Students at any age group and gender can start in the beginner’s course with a white belt and earn their way to a black belt in our advanced and elite courses. Our diverse staff will help teach the proper forms and allow students a safe place to practice tumbles, throws, and pinning moves with their fellow students. We also dedicate a period of time during class to meditate to help focus the mind and breathing. This can be a great way to reduce stress in our hectic lives.
